10 Best Robot Vacuums for Pet Hair 2022
As pet owners, struggling with tangled hair in vacuum brushes and declogging hoses are all-too-common occurrences. we’re always skeptical about vacuums and robots that claim to handle fur balls with ease. But while researching the best robot vacuums for pet hair, we’re pleasantly surprised with just how far these little vacs have come.
Thanks to technology, robot vacuums now have the power and function of our trusty uprights, but with the impressive, space-age features that come with popular self-sufficient vacs. The best part is that you no longer need to spend $1,000 on a quality robot vacuum with cool features like moppingand self-emptying — many are under $300.
Do robot vacuums pick up dog hair?
There are some robot vacuums for pet hair, but not all are designed to handle Fido’s tumbleweeds. Like regular uprights, brushes can easily get clogged or tangled with hair, creating an even messier situation than you had before. You’ll want to look for the following features if you want your robot to conquer your pet hair woes:
- A powerful suction. Pet hair requires a stronger suction than common dirt and dust. Look for powerful suction and air speed.
- A rubber or silicone brush. Regular vacuum brushes will tangle hair, preventing a thorough suction. Rubber and silicone brushes don’t cause hair to tangle, even when faced with longer human hair.
- A filtration system. Whether you have allergies or not, the thought of dust and dander filling the air as you’re vacuuming is not optimal. Look for a vacuum with a multi-layer filter to block allergens.
Are robot vacuums worth it?
Robot vacuums may not be able to replace the best upright vacuums for pet hair, but they can work with them, allowing you to go longer in between deep cleans. Some robot vacuums have mopping features, which is even better. Plus, they often are on sale (especially for Black Friday!), and thousands of reviewers (myself included) will testify that the purchase of their robot vacuum was indeed life-changing.
1. iRobot Roomba i7+
Behold, the Cadillac of robot vacuums for pet owners. The i7+ is on the higher end of the spectrum (and the price reflects that!), but before you let the sticker shock set in, know that it’s probably the most effective robot vacuum for pet hair and dander. Not only does it have unique multi-surface rubber brushes that avoid tangles and obstructions, its automatic dirt disposer is lined with 4-layer AllergenLock bags that trap 99 percent of pollen and mold. VSLAM navigation learns the layout of your home after just a few runs and cleans in efficient rows to maximize battery life.
For unexpected messes (if you’re a pet owner, you have them often), you can ask your Roomba to regularly target specific areas of your home. It also comes with the option to purchase a Braava jet m6 robot mop that syncs with your Roomba using Imprint Link Technology to vacuum and mop together, in sequence.
Promising review: “Really love this product so far!! Our house in 1450 square feet with tile floors and carpeting and we have two large dogs with long hair that shed constantly. The Roomba is able to pick up clumps of pet hair without a problem on both surfaces and I have never had to manually empty the bin on the robot (I was worried the hair clumps would get stuck in the emptying mechanism). The Roomba cleans rooms very thoroughly and is even able to sneak under my bed with some crafty maneuvering… The disposal canister bag holds way more than I was expecting — probably two-three weeks of dirt and dander. I thought the pet hair would really increase the frequency that I had to empty it, but I can run the vacuum often and am happy I don’t have to change the bag every week given the cost of the replacement bags. The room mapping feature is amazing and allows you to ask Alexa to have the Roomba clean a specific room or the whole house. The app is easy to use and and the scheduling is very versatile (lets you schedule specific rooms on specific days at specific times or general cleaning with no limit on the number of scheduled tasks). Overall, I’m completely satisfied with my purchased and it makes my home more enjoyable!”
Why we like it:
- 10x more powerful suction than other models
- Dual multi-surface rubber brushes don’t get tangled with hair
- App/Voice-controlled; Auto dirt disposal
2. eufy by Anker, BoostIQ RoboVac 11S MAX
Don’t be fooled by the affordable price of this robot vacuum — its 2000Pa (atmospheric pressure) of suction power can handle fur balls, dust, and dander, all while remaining whisper-quiet. Infrared and drop sensors prevent this vac from obstacles and falling down stairs, while the ultra-thin design lets it roam in hard-to-reach areas, like under the couch. If you have a combination of carpets and hardwood, the large wheels allow it to transition between both without a hiccup.
Promising review: “Bought this not expecting much, but with three dogs and a cat, I need all the vacuum help I can get. I’ve had it about three months now and run it daily for approximately one hour (it will last much longer on a full charge). It picks up an enormous amount of hair and fine dust/dander each time. The slim design lets it clean under the sofa and chairs where hairballs used to grow to the size of rabbits. Not only is the hair now under control, but dust in the house has been reduced tremendously. Couldn’t live without it now – it has made life with pets so much more pleasant.”
Why we like it:
- Strongest ever suction power
- Vacuums for up to 100 minutes
- Ultra quiet
3. iRobot Roomba 675
Roomba is one of the most well-known brands in robot vacuums. The 675 is one of their cheaper models, but it has an impressive 14,000+ 5-star Amazon reviews, all claiming it’s just as effective at cleaning hair, dust, and dirt from carpet and hardwood as the pricier competition. Wifi allows you to schedule your Roomba from a smartphone app (we recommend scheduling for overnight so you can wake up to a dust-free floor), and voice control pairs with your Alexa or Google assistant. Smart mapping is built into this model, so your vac will learn the layout of your home and make note of obstacles like furniture resulting in quicker, more efficient runs each time. When the battery gets low, it docks on its own and automatically recharges.
Promising review: I recently moved into a new 2-story home with wood laminate downstairs (carpet upstairs) and didn’t want to bring my vacuum up and down the stairs to clean both areas. I decided to keep my vacuum upstairs and bit the bullet and bought a Roomba for downstairs. My downstairs area is quite small (approx. 650 sq. ft.) but I have a decent amount of furniture so it is not what I would call an “easy clean.” I also have a dog and a cat who shed A LOT, and as any pet owner knows, hair finds its way into every crevice possible. So far my Roomba has done an amazing job picking up pet hair and dirt downstairs. It easily cleans the floor and rugs and seems to get “smarter” with each use navigating around furniture/obstacles. It runs for close to two hours (until the battery runs low) then docks itself back at the charging station. The app is awesome and allows you to schedule cleaning times/days so you can start the cleaning mode while you’re at work or away from home.”
Why we like it:
- 3 stage cleaning system with mapping
- Dual multi-surface brushes
- Pairs with Google Assistant and Alexa for voice activation
4. Neato Robotics D7 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum
The D-shaped design of the Neato D7 is no accident. Unlike round robot vacuums that can miss direct in corners and along edges, the Neato effortlessly hugs hard-reach areas where pet hair tends to gather. For areas that never seem to stay clean (like under kitchen tables, around litter boxes, etc.), you can use the app to create a zone and program your D7 to target that area more frequently. Neato touts its laser mapping technology as “all seeing,” allowing it to efficiently navigate your home‚ even in the dark!
Promising review: “What an awesome vacuum! Having two kids and a dog leaves very little time to get stuff done around the house, especially cleaning! There’s always dust and pet hair leftover after our old vacuum supposedly did it’s job. After just one cycle with the Neato, no dust bunnies or pet hair in sight. I love that everything can be done via the app. It was pretty cool seeing how the robot vacuum works around all of our furniture and even cords laying on the floor. It got every inch around the dining table and dining chair legs. It worked well going from wood to tile to carpet. No dings or scratches on furniture, walls, or floors. We run it when we’re out of the house or at night when the kids are asleep. This thing is such a time-saver! We basically “set it and forget it!” Another great thing about the Neato is that it updates via the app and wifi. How easy is that? I just wish we got one sooner! Now, vacuuming is one less thing we have to worry about and a quick check off our usual to-do list. I kind of feel like our Neato is now a part of our family lol. Love it and totally recommend it!“
Why we like it:
- 70 percent larger brush than leading round robots
- Integrates with smart home systems
- Laser mapping technology
5. Ecovac Deebot U2 Pro Vacuum & Mop
This 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop does all your wet/dry cleaning in one swipe. First, the vacuum’s tangle-free silicone brush sucks pet hair into an extra large 800ML dust bin with triple-layer filtration. The mop feature follows, using a large 300mL water tank that can clean more than 2,000 square feet or surface. When the battery is low, it returns to its dock to auto-charge. And the icing on the cake? The Deebot has the bells and whistles of other top notch brands, like efficient home mapping, stair recognition, voice command, and app control.
Promising review: “This vacuum is fantastic, even better than I expected. First of all, it’s so much quieter than the Roomba that I replaced it with. I can barely hear it and can even keep it on while I am working from home. It does a great job of picking up all of my dog’s hair which is a huge plus. I love the fact that it mops and vacuums. It saves me a ton of time by being able to do both. The device is just so smart and I love being able to use it through the app. It has gotten stuck on a few things but we’ve figured out what to get out of the way before turning it on that it’s no longer an issue.”
Why we like it:
- Simultaneously vacuums and mops
- Cleans up to 2.5 hours on a single charge
- Tangle-free, silicone brush
6. Roborock S6 MaxV Robot Vacuum
The Roborock S6 MaxV is the most Jetsons-esque robot vacuum of the series. With a sophisticated image recognition feature that uses dual cameras as “eyes,” it detects even the most tiny of obstacles (like the earrings your dog “accidentally” knocked off your night stand), and avoids them without disrupting its cleaning. You can use your cell phone to program multi-level mapping, up to 10 “no-go” zones, and easily switch between the dry vacuum and wet mop. Is high-capacity, electric water tank and spring-loaded mop will make your hardwood and tile floors sparkle.
Promising review: “As a first time buyer of a robotic vacuum I did a lot of research on whether it could avoid objects that needed to be. The Roborock S6MaxV is great, my floors have never been so clean. With two dogs the S6MaxV picks up tons of hair and dust that seems to settle on area carpets and hardwood floors throughout the day and we were amazed at how much refuse we found in the dust bin. I am very pleased with the purchase as it frees up time that would be spent vacuuming each day. Customer service is very responsive too when we submitted questions they got back to us quickly.“
Why we like it:
- 25 percent more suction
- Multi-level mapping systems support up to four floors, with up to 10 No-Go Zones, 10 No-Mop Zones, and 10 Invisible Barriers
- Automatic room recognition
7. Shark IQ Robot Self-Empty Robotic Vacuum
I personally own this robot vacuum. Since I bought it one month ago, my floors have gone from crumby with pet hair tumbleweeds to looking freshly-vacuumed all the time. The app is very easy to use — I program mine to run at the same time every day — and I’m able to check on its progress and battery level. The rubber brush really is self-cleaning — I’ve never once had to untangle pet hair (I still need to wrestle with my Dyson upright to unwrap hair, so this is a big plus!). The self-emptying base holds so much hair and dirt that I almost never need to empty it.
Promising review: “Our of all the robot vacuums I’ve had, this is by far the best. It keeps my floors clean. I use it everyday. It keeps my dog’s hair off of my floors. I have one in the 1st floor and [one on] 2nd floor. I don’t have to put a gate or anything on the stairs — as it gets closer it actually detects the stairs and turns around. I have allergies … Since we got this vacuum, my allergy levels have decreased. … I’ve tested with several things on the floors and when it’s time to clean it just go and cleans it all. The best part of it is after it cleans it does one last run for missing spots. I recommend for everyone in all type houses and all type floors.”
Why we like it:
- Self-emptying base holds up to 30 days of debris
- Schedule whole-home cleanings or target specific rooms
- Self-cleaning brush roll prevents tangles
8. Yeedi K700
This robot vacuum is not only beautiful, it’s high-performing 2-in-1 design vacuums and mops quietly and efficiently. Its camera mapping technology learns your home like other models, but unlike some, the Yeedi allows you to customize your path to reach high-traffic areas or tackle recent messes. If you have allergies, the three-layer air filtration blocks 99 percent of allergens, pollens and tiny particles. Its 2000Pa suction can handle pet hair without tangles and clogs, and lasts for 110 minutes without needed a recharge.
Promising review: “We have two cats and a dog and a daughter-in-law with allergies who now lives with us due to Covid. Since we started using this, her allergies are significantly better. And I continue to be amazed at how much pet hair and dirt this little vacuum picks up every day. Highly recommend!“
Why we like it:
- Powerful 2000Pa suction
- Three-layer air filtration effectively blocks 99% of allergens
- Smart sensor monitors in real time
9. GOOVI 1600PA Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
If you’re looking for a hassle-free clean, then the GOOVI robotic vacuum cleaner is a definite top choice. Personalize your type of cleaning with the customizable cleaning mode options offered. Rather than spend time monitoring your robot vacuum, this model was made with large wheels so that is can easily glide onto carpet and over floor ledges without getting stuck. The compact design also allows the vacuum to fit underneath most beds and cupboards, so that you can get those tough-to-reach areas. It even automatically returns to its charging station when the battery is low, so you won’t have to worry about it dying mid-clean.
Promising review: “This is a great product, especially if you have pets. I was very impressed at it’s ability to pick up pet hair on smooth floors…I bought this because I have back problems and it hurts to use an upright. This does the job as well if not better than an upright. It even picked up pieces of toilet paper that my cat loves to tear up if she gets the chance to get to the roll. I love that it returns to the charging dock on it’s own when the battery gets low so it can be ready to go again. It is very quiet and doesn’t scare my cat and dog once they got use to its movement.“
Why we like it:
- Automatically goes to charging dock when battery is low
- Has large wheels to carry it onto carpet and over floor ledges
- Designed with customizable cleaning modes
10. Neato Robotics D4 Laser Guided Smart Robot Vacuum

You won’t even have to think about cleaning your floors again with this model — it does the mapping for you. Using laser mapping, this vacuum maps out your home to create an optimal cleaning route. You won’t even have to worry about charging it! Using its AI technology, the vacuum automatically detects how much battery life is needed before cleaning and charges accordingly.
Promising review: “I will never be without this vacuum, ever. This thing is exactly what I needed. I have tile floors, so I
can feel every bit of the dirt and pet hair as it adds up as the day goes on. I’m running the vac daily and I’ve noticed a huge difference in the dirt and grime left on the floors…I’m hooked!!“
Why we like it:
- Detects how much battery life is needed for cleaning and charges accordingly
- Comes with an eco-mode
- Uses laser mapping for effective navigation
